About
In the wake of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, 2024, Baltimore struggled to define how its collapse, and the subsequent closing of the port's maritime activities, would affect the city, the region, and the nation. We came to realize that the people of Baltimore and the surrounding region had, over time, divorced our daily lives from the port. The very entity that led to Baltimore's growth as a city and an economic powerhouse was now, despite its physical presence, but a far distant world to its many neighbors. It was within that environment that Stevenson University created the Center for the Study of the Port, or as it is known to us, the Port Study Center.
The mission of the Port Study Center is to engage in research and activities that aid the port and its stakeholders while simultaneously returning to the public a sense of pride for their port and the people associated with that port.

While the Center is home-based in Stevenson University's School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS), it is an institution-wide initiative and can collaborate with other schools and disciplines as needed.
